What is a "skura"?
Ice Age
The word "skura" means something cut. We are thus talking about rocks and mountains cut in two. Outside of Småland, they are usually called ravines or gorges. The skuras were made during the Ice age, more than 10 000 years ago. Different ways of creation were possible. Often, but not always, there is a stream or river in the bottom of the skura.
All sizes
The skuras come in all sizes. The largest one is More south of Mariannelund, tens of kilometres long, up to 100 metres wide and 50 metres deep.
